Proposed parish visit to
the Holy Land – come
and join us!
Our
earlier plan to visit in April has been postponed. We are now planning to go for six or
seven nights during mid November (final dates to be fixed soon). Please do consider joining our
group, staying in Bethlehem and Mount Beatitudes and visiting many holy places of pilgrimage. We will also go to our twin parish
in Birzeit in this, their very special 150th anniversary
year. This will make it a very
special and memorable occasion.
So - think about it and
call Sally on 012233 64520 if you are interested. The sooner we book, the better and watch this space for further
updates.
THE
EVERYMAN PLAYERS
PRESENT "NO NAME IN THE STREET" BY EDWARD MURCH
Against
the backdrop of the events of the first Holy Week and her interaction with
the colourful characters she meets on her quest, a mother is looking for
her son. Who is she, and who is the son she so urgently seeks?
The
Everyman Players have the answers.
Performances
at All Saints, Barrington (30th March); St Andrew's Stapleford (31st March); St Luke's Victoria Road, (2nd April); St
Laurence's Milton Road (3rd
April); and here at OLEM ON SATURDAY 4th APRIL.
Collections
on the door for Church Funds after expenses. St Andrew's are selling
tickets at £5, £3 concessions, with wine and discussion.
This is one way to prepare for Holy Week. Do
come to a performance.

This weekend there is an
appeal on behalf of a small charity called Educaid, which provides education to over 1000
of the poorest and most disadvantaged children in Sierra Leone. Many of
these children lost their parents, homes and education during the civil war
and are desperate to access education as a means to improving their
opportunities in life.
If you are
able to support this charity, you will be helping some of the poorest and
most vulnerable young
people in the world. trustees cover the overheads in the UK which means
that all donations are used
directly in the schools. Information sheets and gift aid envelopes are
available at the back of church today but the appeal will be open until
Easter weekend
5th
Sunday of Lent
Dear Friends,
Most of
us, and the more if we are getting on in years, have experienced how, when
we are faced with serious suffering, we tend to become totally preoccupied
with ourselves. As a
consequence of this, we risk losing our
sensitivity towards the suffering of the people nearest to us. This
also explains the temptation of economic protectionism that we experience
in many countries at the moment having to face a serious economic crisis.
We are preparing to “make memory” of the death of somebody who
could, in the midst of his own dying, pray for those who were crucifying
him, forgive a thief and ask his mother and his favourite disciple to take
care of each other. Let us pray that our experience of suffering
may be converted into a lesson to learn to sympathise even more with all
those who suffer around us and that we may find extra strength to accompany
them.
God
bless you all. Your friend, raf
