Children’s Liturgy and Children’s Masses
Held each term-time Sunday, Children’s Liturgy is celebrated in the Church Hall during the 11:15  Mass. We take a single group of children who are Pre-school (3-5 years) up to Year 2 out of Mass each Sunday. The group runs through a simplified version of the Mass theme for that Sunday. Then the group does activities based on the theme which may include art, craft and music. The group is led by adult members of the Parish.

Once a term, we hold a Children’s Mass where children participate fully, reading the Penitential Rite, First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Bidding Prayers and contributing art work. Each Christmas Eve the children participate in a Children’s Christmas Mass where they contribute by reading the Christmas Story and the Bidding Prayers.

Children’s Classes on the Catholic Faith
The majority of our children attend their own village primary schools and the community therefore provides religious instruction for primary school children from age 6 upwards.  A key aim of the classes is be the first of two years of preparation for First Holy Communion. Children in Year 2 who are due to take their First Holy Communion in Year 3 are expected to attend the classes.

In the Classes on the Catholic Faith the children learn how to apply bible knowledge and the teaching of the church into their daily lives. Classes are run on Sunday mornings (10:15–11.00) fortnightly in term-time (3 classes each half term). Dates of the classes and contact details are given in the bulletin and on this website – see the Diary and Notices page.

New children are always welcome, if you wish your child to attend or if you any questions about the classes please contact Nieva ( or Agata (

First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion
The community runs weekly evening preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for children in Year 3 (age 7 minimum) or older.  These classes commence in the New Year, with First Reconciliation usually taking place in February and First Holy Communion usually taking place in June.

Sessions for Older Children/Teenagers Pre-Confirmation
We are experimenting with holding discussion groups and retreats for older children and teenagers at Our Lady of Lourdes, Sawston. An initial session is currently being planned. See the Young People page for further details.
