Sawston Pastoral Council
The affairs of our community are overseen by the Sawston Pastoral Council (SPC) who deal with social and pastoral aspects of our community and act as a link to the OLEM commitees.  The group meets once a month and new members can be nominated in at the Annual General Meeting. The SPC are grateful for all of the support of our parishoners who attend our fundraising and social events. The current chair of the SPC is Martin Deane (martin.deane@gmail.com).

Owen & Rigby Community
This team of volunteers was set up in May 2012 by the SPC to provide help to our community. It is currently in its set-up stage so more information will be available soon, including contact details.

Wednesday Club
This group meets on the third Wednesday of every month, from 14:30-16:00, usually in the Hall at OLOL unless otherwise stated. They often go out on trips around the Cambridgeshire area. Details of each month’s club are available on the Diary and Notices page or from Pat Richardson (patrichardson01@gmail.com).

The OLOL community have always been generous towards charity schemes both one-off and regular. Charities which currently receive our regular support are CAFOD (especially Family Fast Days), APF Missions (Red boxes) and Fairtrade (There are frequent stalls after Mass selling food, jewellery, cards and gifts).

Community Activities
A number of community social activities are held throughout the year including regular Bring and Share Suppers, Quiz Nights and Ceilidhs.  At Christmas there is a Bazaar and a Christmas Meal for over-60s.  Tea and Coffee is served after Sunday Masses either in the Parish House or the Church Hall.

Involvement in the Community
Many ministries are required to enable our community to thrive and, in a Parish as large as ours, it is no longer fair or realistic to expect to expect the Clergy to provide or supervise the provision of these ministries.  Many people serve our community in a variety of roles:

  • Readers
  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Musicians
  • Altar Servers
  • Catechists
  • Cleaners
  • Flower Arrangers
  • Maintenance

Your involvement would be most welcome, where can you add your name to our list of volunteers?…
