Parish Information
Children’s Liturgy
Held each Sunday, except during the month of August, Liturgy for the children is celebrated in the hall during the 11.15 am Mass.
The children’s Liturgy is a simplified version of the Mass theme for that Sunday. It may include drama, art and craft, music and poetry, and is led by members of the Parish. The group is split into Pre – school (3-5 years) and KS1 & KS2 (6-11 years)
Catechesis
The majority of our children attend their own village primary schools and the Community therefore provides religious instruction for children receiving primary school education. Classes are run on Sunday mornings (10 – 11.00 am) fortnightly in term time (3 classes each half term). The classes are suitable for all children of school age who attend a non catholic school. Dates of the classes and contact details are given in the bulletin and on this web site – see the Notices section.
First Communion
The community runs weekly evening preparation for first confession and first communion for children in Year 3 (age 7 minimum) or older. These classes commence in September and continue until first communion in June.
Confirmation
Preparation for confirmation (year 10 or older) are generally held in conjunction with OLEM. ( see the notices page of this website)
Young People (7-UP)
A group for young people aged 11 to 18 is run in conjunction with OLEM.
Involvement in the Community
Many ministries are required to enable our community to thrive and, in a Parish as large as ours, it is no longer fair or realistic to expect to expect the Clergy to provide or supervise the provision of these ministries. Many people serve or community as, for example, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Musicians, Altar Servers, Catechists, Church Cleaners, Flower Arrangers as well as Painters and Decorators, Bricklayers and Gardeners. Y our involvement would be most welcome. Please contact Nick Ash at nick.ash@ntlworld.com or on 01223 513775.
Community Activities
A number of community social activities are held throughout the year including regular Bring and Share Suppers held in the Parish House. Tea and Coffee is also served after Sunday Masses in the Parish House.
Governance
The affairs of our community are overseen by the Pastoral Council who deal with social and pastoral aspects of our community. The Buildings Committee looks after the maintenance and development of the Church, the Hall and the site. The current chair of the Sawston Pastoral Council is Nick Ash and you may contact him at nick.ash@ntlworld.com or on 01223 513775.
